‘Life goes ‘ — and so do real estate sales

Sometimes you might get the feeling from listening to and reading about the state of the Metro Vancouver real estate market that’s so quiet it is barely breathing. However, numerous analysts are implying the pent-up demand that comes in these times could be just around the corner.
Besides that, the current “state of the market” is that there are still sales taking place. That’s the story of “life goes on” — people still have to have a place to live, they still have to move to accommodate any number of life situations, be they job location, or a change in family dynamics, or any number of reasons that prompt a change in where they live.

From looking at this bar graph provided by the B.C. Real Estate Association, you can see that while January’s sales were significantly less than they have been, there were still sales…significant sales.
Said BCREA Chief Economist Brendon Ogmundson:
“British Columbia’s housing market kicked off 2026 with its second weakest January since 2016, with sales in almost every region falling short of historical averages. Despite a slow start, we expect stable rates and improved affordability conditions to release pent-up demand with sales picking up over the course of 2026.”
Once again, life goes on, doesn’t it?
